ASRS Climate Reporting
Moving Beyond Compliance to Sustainability Strategy
&BLOOM Sustainability & ESG was pleased to contribute to CHOICE's recent feature exploring Australia's new mandatory climate reporting requirements under the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) and what this means for corporate accountability, sustainability strategy and climate action.
The article explores findings from CHOICE's Corporate Climate Accountability Project, highlighting ongoing public scepticism towards corporate environmental claims and the growing expectation for businesses to provide transparent, credible information on their climate impacts.
Commenting in the article, Sydney Straver, Managing Director of &BLOOM, noted that the introduction of ASRS climate-related financial disclosures is an important milestone for Australian businesses. The new reporting requirements are helping establish a common language for organisations to identify, assess and disclose climate-related risks and opportunities, strengthening consistency and comparability across the market.
However, climate reporting should be viewed as more than a compliance exercise. While ASRS provides an important foundation for improving climate risk management and sustainability governance, organisations have an opportunity to use these insights to inform broader sustainability strategies and long-term business decisions.
Sydney also highlighted that many organisations are choosing to prepare for climate reporting even when they are not yet required to report. This reflects a growing recognition that sustainability expectations increasingly extend across value chains, with customers, investors, regulators and business partners seeking greater transparency on environmental and social impacts.
At &BLOOM, we believe the greatest value from sustainability reporting comes when organisations move beyond disclosure and embed sustainability into strategy, risk management and decision-making. By connecting climate reporting with broader ESG priorities, businesses can strengthen resilience, build stakeholder trust and identify opportunities for long-term value creation.
